What To Wear
Now that your portrait session is set, let’s talk about choosing your outfits. To make things easier we’ve created a guide to help you coordinate outfits along with color palette ideas.
1. Coordinate, Don’t match
Keep everyone in similar shades, jeweled tones photograph wonderfully (maroons, blues, and dark greens). Stay away from bright colors as those distract from the focus of the portrait, which is your gorgeous face. When all outfits are similar shades and tones, the portrait is more visually balanced.
2. Avoid Distracting Patterns
Busy patterns create unflattering lines and limit what can be done in the artistic process. Solid colors or subtle textures photograph beautifully. Stay away from logos that will draw attention away from you.
3. Timely over Trendy
This gorgeous heirloom will look elegant on your walls for years to come. Keep your outfits neutral and classic.
4. Layers Add Depth
Jackets and sweaters add visual interest and can make it easy to adjust for different looks.
5. Fell Great and Be Great.
Family portraits aren’t the best time to experiment with a new style. Feel comfortable and confident as it will be reflected in the photographs. Some families prefer to stay casual while others want to make this a statement piece and dress up to their finest. Your portrait should be a reflection of who you are.
6. Don’t skimp on the details.
Pay attention to shoes, socks and jewelry. Long necklaces get tangled easily and if there is a pet involved, it may distract them.
7. Come dressed ready to go.
Make sure hair and make up are ready when you arrive. Remove any temporary tattoos or chipped nail polish. Your family will be going straight onto the set so that we have the most time with you.
